ROANOKE COUNTY, VIRGINIA June 27, 2017 – Have you ever wondered what it is like to drive a boat, operate a bucket truck or ride in an armored vehicle? Come out to experience these vehicles and so much more at our ninth annual Touch-a-Truck event, on Saturday July 29th, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Roanoke County’s Green Hill Park. Kids of all ages can climb, touch, and explore many unique vehicles that are not always accessible to the public. This FREE event is open for kids and adults so they can sit in, touch, and learn about vehicles they usually don’t have the opportunity to be up close and personal with.

Touch-a-Truck is a fabulous event, which enables companies, organizations and individuals to interact with the community while letting children see, touch and learn about their vehicles. Vehicles vary from small bobcats to large monster trucks. There will also be all-terrain vehicles and boats for the public to explore. If you want to be an active part of this event, sign up your truck, plane, or boat for the event by contacting Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Special Events at 540.777.6326 or email wschultz@roanokecountyva.gov.

Vehicle drivers and operators will be on hand to educate the public and answer any questions about their vehicles. Favorite activities from past events will return this year, including Firemen’s Foam, a petting zoo, hay rides, food vendors, and a magician along with other special attractions! This year’s event will also include a five car barrel train! Parental supervision and participation is essential and cameras are highly recommended.

Touch-a-Truck has some of the same popular vehicles from the previous eight events but it is also accompanied by new and exciting new participants in this ninth annual event.  Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® state-of-the art, mobile dental van equipped to screen children for common oral health conditions will be on hand for the first time this year. Colgate's mobile dental van measures 32 feet long, nearly the size of a mobile home and features friendly visuals to help create a fun and less intimidating dental ‘screening experience’ for kids.

Roanoke County’s Touch-a-Truck event is one of the largest of its kind in the Southeast and was awarded the 2014 “Top 20 Events in The Southeast” by the Southeast Tourism Society. Come join Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism and our sponsors, WFXR News, CW5, and ComServe, for a day filled with adventures, new opportunities and memories that will last a lifetime.
